GeneralFive Steps Towards a Clearer Complexion

Many of us were under the assumption that once we leave our teens, problems with our skin will end. Unfortunately, although that can be true for some, many of us continue to suffer from breakouts on our face way beyond our teens. Continue reading for five steps you can take in your quest to discover a brighter complexion.

1. Healthy Diet

What you put into your body has a significant impact on how it looks on the outside. When you fuel your body with the wrong things, it really does show. Try to stick to a healthy diet as much as possible. We don’t advocate clean eating 24/7 because that will eventually lead to bingeing, and a little treat can do your mental health some good every now and again. Your fluid intake is also important. Being dehydrated stops your skin from appearing radiant.

2. Skincare Routine

Soap and water rarely do the trick when it comes to a skincare routine. However, something is better than nothing. Removing make-up is vital before bed as it clogs your pores, leading to breakouts. Most skincare experts advocate cleanse, tone, and moisturize. Some essential oils can also help with acne, so check these ones out from KumiOils.com. Tea tree oil is perhaps the most well-known when it comes to skincare and is an ingredient of many spot-eliminating products.

3. Exercise

We all know that exercise has a wealth of benefits, but who would have thought improving your skin would be one of them? Regular exercise helps to keep the blood flowing around the body, can help to improve your circulation and helps oxygen reach all your pores. It also helps maintain healthy levels of collagen and cortisol. These make you both look and feel better. Although it can be difficult to find motivation at times, exercise doesn’t have to be attending the gym five times a week. Activity as simple as a brisk walk around the block, or a longer hike, or sticking on your favorite band and dancing around the house will suffice as long as your heart rate is elevated for a sustained period of time.

4. Sleep Routine

Without sufficient sleep, we can feel terrible. It can also have a detrimental impact on our skin. Between seven and eight hours every night is recommended. While you are snoozing, your body continues to work hard, helping the skin to recover from a difficult and busy day. Try to head upstairs to bed at the same time every day, regardless of it being a work night or not, and set your alarm. These two things will help to build a sustainable routine.

5. Stop Smoking

Everyone knows the damage that smoking can do to your internal organs, but it can also affect your complexion. The smoke from cigarettes contains carbon monoxide, which can displace the oxygen contained in your skin. The nicotine stops the blood from flowing as well. Both mean that your skin will be dry, discolored and gaunt: not a look that anyone would really plump for. Give up the cigarettes without delay!
