With so much news about the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), it is not a surprise that many people are feeling concerned about their health and well-being. Numbers of questions were raised – Where did it come from? What are the symptoms of the virus? How can I avoid catching it?
In this blog written by First Aid Pro, a provider of leading first aid course in Melbourne, they have compiled 6 effective first aid tips you can do to maintain your physical health during coronavirus. But first, let’s define what coronavirus is and what are its symptoms.
The Novel Coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19, is a highly virulent virus that is originally traced from a wet market in Wuhan, a Chinese province of Hubei. Humans became infected with coronavirus from exposure to a source, most likely an animal, who is carrying the
How COVID-19 is transmitted?
As with other viruses, COVID-19 transmission is also through the respiratory route. The virus is concentrated in the nose and lungs and can pass to another individual via droplets from sneezing and coughing. Once the virus has given an entry point into your body, you will most likely experience the symptoms in 2 to 14 days after exposure.
COVID-19 Symptoms
The most common symptoms of coronavirus
- Fever
- Cough
- Shortness of breath
It can be challenging to avoid being exposed to the virus, especially if you are often surrounded by other people. But just like during a regular flu season, there are things you can do to stay healthy during this pandemic.
- Wash your hands frequently
Clean hands can protect you against the virus. Wash your hands regularly using soap and water and dry them thoroughly.
- Use alcohol-based sanitiser
If you don’t have immediate access to soap and water, use an alcohol-based sanitiser that contains at least 60 percent alcohol.
- Avoid touching your face
Like what I mentioned, the coronavirus can be transmitted once a tiny droplet of the virus entered your eyes, nose, and mouth. Avoid touching those areas, especially if you are in unsafe places, where you can easily transmit the virus without even realizing it.
- Use of Face Coverings or Masks
Health agencies recommend wearing face coverings or masks to protect yourself and others from getting sick.
- Stand back
It is suggested staying at least 6 feet away from people who may be sick. As much as possible, try to stay clear of people who are coughing and sneezing, especially in public areas.
- Stay home
This is incredibly important to help reduce the spread of illness. Practice “social isolation” in the meantime. It will help you avoid being exposed.
The spread of coronavirus is touching new high every day and there is no exact treatment available yet to cure the virus. It is time for us to act responsibly, and by following these tips, you can reduce your risk of getting sick.
