Interview1upHealth is Creating a Better Healthcare Experience: Interview

Designed to provide interoperable data for healthcare systems, FHIR interoperability leader 1upHealth has developed a system that connects providers and patients from over 10,000 healthcare facilities, bridging the gap between patient data and provider needs. To learn more, we conducted an interview with 1upHealth.

1. Can you tell us more about 1upHealth?

1upHealth has won over 10 awards spanning FHIR® security, FHIR® Bulk Data Analytics for population health, FHIR® Data provenance, and a focus on patient data. All of these aspects are core to the 1up Platform. The FHIR® community and US Government’s health institutions recognize 1up as a leader in the healthcare interoperability space.

2. How does 1upHealth bridge the gap between patient data and provider needs?

1upHealth integrates with patients’ directly across 1up’s network of 1000s of health systems. There is no authorization required from providers, simply ask consumers to connect to their individual data and compute on it instantly. We also directly connect to EHRs and provider systems for population access.

3. Why do healthcare providers struggle to access patient data? How can 1upHealth help in solving this issue?

Patient medical records can be stored in multiple different portals. This makes it difficult to gather and access all of them from different places. 1upHealth can help solve this issue with our FHIR API platform so healthcare providers can receive data in a clean, consistent format.

4. What is 1upHealth’s FHIR API platform?

The FHIR® API platform enables teams to build in minutes what would have previously taken years. FHIR is a standard to connect into and get data out of. 1upHealth provides a FHIR platform where we are connected to hospitals and apps can plug into our platform. They can get instant access to all the hospitals we are connected with.

5. Are there any improvements you are making pertaining COVID-19?

We are partnering with multiple organizations to create a pandemic toolkit that enables people to get information, report their status and track their movements, build free, public datasets outlining COVID cases and providing remote point of care diagnostics. FHIR allows us to utilize EHR data in your app to deliver care during this pandemic. Simply ask consumers to connect their individual data and compute on it instantly.

6. How can 1upHealth help patients be in control of their own electronic medical healthcare records and data?

Our technology utilizes standardized health data formats to automatically update and store your health information. New medications? Log in to find your updated prescription list. New lab results? View them sooner and follow trends over time. By having all your data easily accessible in one place, you can concentrate on what really matters. At 1upHealth, we believe that you should be in control of your health information. You choose how much data to share and where you want to share it.

7. How can 1upHealth help healthcare providers in providing adequate healthcare?

1upHealth’s standardized system gives providers access to over 280 million patients  from over 10,000 health systems and provides them with every piece of the puzzle to the best possible healthcare. The 1upHealth provider app works in conjunction with top EHR systems and provides a wide range of services — such as interactive patient timelines, patient and search records, and customized content all generated by FHIR resources — to make providing adequate healthcare a breeze. 1upHealth offers a simple and secure network that allows for an improved user experience. Ultimately, this leads to faster, more accurate diagnoses.

8. Where do you see 1uPHealth in the next 5-years?

In the next 5-years, 1upHealth plans to expand hospital network connections which will ultimately help more patients.
