Covid-19Benefits of Wearing Face Masks

With COVID-19 causing mayhem and uncertainty, it might be confusing to find what is right and what is wrong. But without question, the one consistent throughout this whole period has been this: wear a face mask.

But why should you wear one? What are the benefits that come with it? Are there any benefits at all? We make the case FOR wearing face masks by providing you with five benefits.

1 – Masks Protect You

The primary way COVID-19 spreads is from person to person by respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks.

So, without question, masks protect you.

You might not like how it feels or how you look it in, but it does protect you against those with the COVID-19 virus (or any other sickness in fact). It doesn’t even matter what masks you wear. You can wear cloth masks, surgical masks. You can even buy disposable masks, so you have plenty to spare.

And when you consider other people, the benefits get even bigger…

2- Masks Protect Other People

If you wear masks, you protect yourself. If everyone wears masks, everyone is protected. It’s the collective responsibility and benefit.

In simple terms, it’s this: the more people who block the transmission of the virus with face masks, the less virus there is circulating in the community. That means fewer chances of people catching COVID-19 when they’re out and about.

3- You Might Be Contagious

Let’s face it: with COVID, no one knows for sure if they’re sick or not.

Asymptomatic people may carry the virus and not know they have. They could be infected without even knowing it, making themselves a danger to all those around them.

You could even be contagious and not know it.

So face masks act as that barrier to protect you at all times, ensuring that you don’t get infected and don’t infect others.

4- Economically, We Need It

Masks are now commonplace in businesses and public places. If you don’t wear a face mask, you can’t go in and work. So face masks are essential for boosting the economy.

The widespread use of face masks could significantly slow the growth rate of virus cases, thereby ensuring that everyone returns to work. It’s also a security barrier in which employees can work without fear of getting sick. Customers, too, feel secure when visiting locations if they know they’ll be protected.

There’s also money in selling and buying face masks. It’s a booming business that will continue to grow as the virus maintains its hold on society.

5- We Really Don’t Have Other Alternatives

In the absence of a vaccine, and the lack of foresight about the end of the virus, face masks remain our only option in defence.

Alongside, handwashing and physical distancing, wearing disposable face masks are one of the few options we have to ensure we can continue our daily lives without the fear of getting infected.

For now, we’re stuck with face masks. And if these benefits don’t convince you why you should wear them, you should be locked indoors!
