GeneralHow to Find Out if You Are Eligible for NDIS Funding

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a ground-breaking initiative that will see individuals with disabilities receive support and services tailored to their specific needs. If you have been diagnosed with a disability, the NDIS might be able to fund a range of services from a disability service provider for you. The process of applying for NDIS funding can seem daunting at first, but once you understand the process, it won’t appear so frightening! Here are some tips to help you find out if you are eligible for NDIS funding and how to begin your application.

What is the NDIS?

Prior to NDIS, there was no standardised level of support provided to people with disabilities in Australia. Instead, each individual’s level of support depended on an assessment of their need for assistance. The NDIS aims to change this by standardising support to ensure people with disabilities receive an appropriate level of assistance. The NDIS also aims to streamline the current assistance process to make it easier for people with disabilities to receive the support they need. To be eligible for NDIS funding, a person must have a permanent and significant disability that affects their core activities including communication, self-care, movement, cognition, ability to undertake daily living activities, or ability to engage in employment.

How do you know if you are eligible for NDIS funding?

You can use the My Aged Care website to determine if you are eligible for the NDIS. Simply select the ‘NDIS’ tab on the My Aged Care homepage and follow the prompts. If you are not yet listed as NDIS-eligible, you can request a reassessment of your eligibility by completing the Online Reassessment Request form. If you are already receiving assistance through the NDIS, you can check if the level of funding you are receiving is appropriate by completing the Online Decision Review Request form. If you are not yet listed as NDIS-eligible, it’s worth applying for assistance. You don’t risk anything by applying for the NDIS. The decision to approve or deny funding under the NDIS is made solely at the discretion of the government. You cannot be denied assistance if you are eligible. All you have to do is complete the application form and send it to the correct government department.

Check if you are already listed as NDIS eligible

You can use the My Aged Care website to determine if you are already listed as NDIS-eligible. You can also check if your vision, hearing, and mobility equipment have been approved for funding by using the ‘Equipment and Services’ tab. If you find that you are listed as NDIS ineligible, you can request a reassessment of your eligibility by completing the Online Reassessment Request form.

Check your vision, hearing and mobility equipment is funded

If you are listed as NDIS eligible, you can check that the equipment you use for vision, hearing, and mobility is approved for funding. If you find that the equipment listed on your plan is not approved for funding, you should contact your NDIS planner to discuss your options. If you are unsure whether a piece of equipment is approved for funding, check with your NDIS planner. They will be able to tell you whether funding is available for the equipment in question.

Confirm what support you will receive under the NDIS

If you are listed as NDIS-eligible, you can use the My Aged Care website to view the level of assistance you are eligible for. This is a great way to get a feel for what level of assistance you will receive under the NDIS. If you are already receiving assistance through the NDIS, you can use the ‘Equipment and Services’ tab on the My Aged Care homepage to view the level of assistance you are currently receiving. This will help you confirm what support you will receive under the NDIS.
