Health ITInterviewDerm to Door: First Telederm App Created by A Derm

Derm to Door is a new AI skincare app started by renowned dermatologist Dr. Lily Talakoub. It is the first one to our knowledge from a derm which is one of the main differentiators.

The app uses patented AI technology to diagnose and treat the skin and recommend the ideal products and treatment plan for you as a derm would. Then it gives you access to a derm for all your skincare questions and needs at no charge to ensure you get as close to an in-person experience as possible. It also features a customer service team of board certified experts who can help you make an appointment directly with a local derm through the app if needed.

The app will also be launching prescription medication for users should these additional products be needed- all without having to visit a derm!

1. Can you tell us more about Derm to Door?

Derm to Door is a new AI skincare app started by renowned dermatologist Dr. Lily Talakoub. It is the first beauty app  of its kind, developed and run by a dermatologist. The apps products and regimens are all hand-picked and tested for customers by a dermatologist and each product is certified packed with powerful ingredients to heal and transform the skin. Via proprietary AI technology, with just a few clicks, users receive a personalized skincare regimen from a dermatologist based on each user’s specific needs.

2. Where can users download the app?

The app is available on android and IOS simply search Derm to Door in the app store.

3. As a dermatologist, what made you start this app?

I started this app thinking of and for my patients, to solve a problem that i didn’t see available for consumers.  90 percent of my patients didn’t know what products to use on their skins or were using the products they had incorrectly. We are offering customers personalized skincare.

4. What are the main benefits of having you as a dermatologist behind the app?

I answer all customers’ questions that are submitted via the app and tailor the regimens. For instance: “is this product ok for sensitive skin”, “if I’m using a glycolic acid can I add a retinol”, “is this product pregnancy safe”? The list goes on. Products and advice about skincare is very generalized but skincare is highly specific. Being a board certified derm behind the app, I offer customer answers to specific questions and needs.

5. What services does the app provide?

Curated shopping, prescriptions and live appointments with a dermatologist.

6. Can users use the app for prescription medication? Can you elaborate on that?

Yes, the new new IOS update allows users to request prescriptions for skin issues that only a derm can prescribe.

7. What is the role of AI in the app?

The app uses patented AI technology to scan, diagnose and treat the skin and recommend the ideal products and treatment plan for customers just as a dermatologist would. Each of the over 1000’s of products have been tested and specifically selected as treatments options for a variety of skin issues, from Dr. Talakoub. The app also gives customers direct access to a derm for all skincare questions and needs at no charge to ensure you get as close to an in-person experience as possible. If users have questions about specific products recommended after using the AI technology, they can directly ask Dr. Lily. It also features a customer service team of board certified experts who, if needed, can book an appointment with a local derm through the app.

8. How can the app help the user connect with a dermatologist?

Through the app, not only can customers directly speak with a derm for any questions via the “text us” feature, but as products are sent, Dr. Lily also includes personalized notes on each product. Additionally, if an appointment is required, customers can schedule an appointment with a derm in their area.

9. How can the app help ensure that the user gains as close in-person experience as possible?

Through the “text us” feature, customers can ask any question that goes directly to Dr Lily and her team of Dermatologists to answer within 24 hours.

10. What benefits did the app provide users with amid the COVID-19 pandemic?

Customers didn’t have to worry about going in to see a dermatologist to get curated skincare! The app analyzed skin, answered questions and It came right to their door.

11. Where do you see the Derm to Door app in the next 5-years?

We will be the largest teledermatology provider in the US. We dream big.

Dr. Lily is the Assistant Professor of Medical Education at University of Virginia and serves on the DC Board of Visitors for the Children’s National Medical Center.
