GeneralCleaning In The Workplace – Where Do You Start?

Cleaning the workplace can be a little daunting, especially during the current climate, with COVID-19 a seemingly ever-present threat. However, if you break it down into steps, it’s relatively simple – the following guide will hopefully simplify the process for you, allowing you to maintain a clean, safe, and respectable work environment.

Cleaning checklist

Perhaps most important is taking a clear methodological approach; if you don’t make a checklist or something similar before you start, you’re bound to forget to clean some places and clean others twice. Save yourself time and effort before you’ve even started and create a thorough checklist, going through each room, leaving nothing out. You can add name and date sections and laminate the list, so that if you use a wipeable marker, a single print will last you weeks.

Cleaning equipment

Without the proper cleaning equipment, you’re not cleaning, you’re just rearranging the dirt. Especially with threats like the Coronavirus, being sure to disinfect surfaces has never been more important.

Clearing the big bits

  • First of all, you need a mop, hoover, and broom for cleaning the bigger bits of dirt. Dusters are also essential for cleaning up more obvious dirt on desks and tables, and unsightly cobwebs in corners of rooms. This stage of cleaning needs to be done first, clearing up all the big bits of muck and stains. It’s also the simplest stage, as you can easily spot the big bits of dirt – it’s the little bits that are trickier.

Disinfecting

  • This stage is especially important – this is where you’ll kill any germs and viruses that are lingering, and really make the workplace sparkle. There are a couple of ways you can go about this; the first is by using a disinfectant spray, and then wiping with disposable wipes. Unfortunately, it’s inappropriate to use reusable cloths when trying to fight against viruses, as it’s likely that you’ll spread the virus to different areas. This method, with seperate sprays and wipes, it works, but it’s more complex than the alternative, which is explored below.
  • The second method of disinfecting is by using disinfecting wipes – wipes which don’t require additional sprays to be effective against germs and viruses. This method is arguably more practical, for a few reasons. It’s easier to keep track of stock, as you don’t need to measure how much is left in sprayer bottles, you just count the packs of wipes.

It’s also simpler – cleaners literally just need to wipe the surfaces, there’s no need to make sure you’ve put enough spray on or check that you’ve used the right spray for the job.

Conclusion

Cleaning the workplace really needn’t be the headache we all think it is. With the above steps, a little elbow grease, and some high-quality cleaning products, you’ll have a spotless workplace in no time. The two most important things are that you’re regular and methodical in your cleaning regime, and that you use high quality disinfectants.

There are a lot of sub-optimum products available, so it really is imperative that you use a respectable supplier such as Uniwipe to ensure that the products you’re purchasing actually do the job they’re intended to.
