Health ITInterviewSilibrain: Equipping You With Intelligent Medtech Solutions

It’s no secret that the MedTech industry has exploded over the past decade. From telemedicine to health wearables and all types of solutions in between, recent developments have helped facilitate significant advances in healthcare.

Yet, there are still plenty of problems to solve and solutions to develop. By building highly accessible and affordable products, Miami-based technology company Silibrain, with a global remote workforce, is doing its part to enhance the quality of life for people all over the globe.

To learn more about Silibrain, we conducted an interview with Roberto Baldizon, Founder and CEO of Silibrain.

Roberto Baldizon, CEO and Founder of Silibrain

1. How is Silibrain enhancing the quality of life for people all over the globe?

By making the latest technological advances available to many through high-caliber, more affordable solutions.

Both users in resource-constrained settings and developed nations can use our tools for their benefit as adapted to their lifestyle.

Thus, we democratize the advancement of technology for healthcare institutions and practitioners to provide prompt and effective treatment with optimized processes for patients.

2. What kind of solutions did Silibrain develop so far?

In 2019 one of our solutions, a simple but innovative and functional patient-managed EHR/EMR system, was selected among the Top 15 in Medica’s global competition.

In 2020  our team leveraged large unidentifiable data sets from such organizations to develop an AI health assistant. This patient engagement tool helps patients better understand their symptoms and practitioners to manage them. We are now working on further developing such a solution under the name of Vibesdoc to help identify more diseases.

We also developed a pharmacy & telehealth hub solution for medical practitioners and institutions in Latin America, starting with Guatemala. Such an offering using mobile and server apps to aid in the industry’s digital transformation in such a region.

3. Can you tell us more about Vibesdoc?

Vibesdoc is a patient engagement tool for prompt diagnosis using patients’ case information gathered from a survey & genetic sequencing with an AI backend. This tool computes the probability of a diagnostic given a patient’s case variables leveraging large data sets to increase accuracy.
Because of the pandemic, we focused first on building a solution to help diagnose covid. However, the same code with few alterations can catch chronic conditions or identify more diseases promptly displayed in an explainable visual manner for users.

We are further improving the features for recommending further testing, practitioners, and institutions to help patients alleviate their symptoms.

4. What is the COVID-19 testing dilemma?
.
Although the antigen and PCR swab tests are the gold standard for detecting the SARS-CoV-2 virus, they are highly prone to human and calibration errors. Field experience has proven these swab tests to be fallible in light of radiological exams.

An X-Ray can rule out a high percentage of erroneous results.

Such Covid-19 diagnosis accuracy improves exponentially with high-resolution tomography exams as the detail of the anatomical evolution is quickly observable within a millimeter resolution.

Radiologists can determine the severity of the case and help internists develop more targeted treatments for the patient. Nevertheless, not all institutions have such a tomography readily available to use for patients, and few practitioners have an X-ray readily available. For this reason, we launched CODI (http://testforcov19.org), a functional demonstration of the Vibesdoc application (https://vibesdoc.com).

5. What is CODI, and how does it solve such a dilemma?

Patients can quickly determine if they are likely to have contracted the COVID-19 virus through the CODI questionnaire. First, the patient completes a detailed survey. Through the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data from countless COVID-19 cases, this information correlates with the likelihood of infection. CODI provides a quantifiable probability of contagion in addition to the existing rapid test result. This tool helps practitioners quickly identify patients at risk and provide prompt treatment. For end-users, the AI alerts them to seek needed medical counsel promptly.

6. Can the CODI/COV-CLEAR be used in other illnesses than COVID-19? Can you elaborate on that?

Vibesdoc (CODI/COV-CLEAR) is a patient engagement tool for prompt diagnosis using patients’ case information gathered from a survey with an AI backend.  The same code with few alterations and more inputs, such as genetic and real-time monitoring data, can promptly catch chronic conditions or identify rare diseases.

Such iteration of Vibesdoc will suggest patients with further tests to verify diagnosis possibilities and provide practitioners with a probability estimate of such results with an alert depending on the urgency of treatment required.

Vibesdoc’s architecture is ready for scale with a react framework-based frontend and Golang API connecting to NoSQL cloud database.

The API can handle requests from other frontend surveys developed by partners, as well as our won.

Through Vibesdoc, we envision users constantly screened and tested for conditions whenever they feel unwell and want to seek help. This tool will be an excellent add-on for practitioners, clinics, insurance companies, medical labs, and the entire supply chain alike. Vibesdoc optimizes the whole patient flow for efficiency with the help of passed medical cases.

7. Where do you see Silibrain in the next 5-years?

For this initial year, the goal is to land our initial private or public partnerships while developing an MVP that meets our vision for the project and complies with its requirements. After gaining feedback and experience, we plan to expand our network with a similar strategy. For the third year, the solution would have a more international outlook. The remote team we would handle to optimize for integrability and optimization of exiting healthcare systems where deployed.
