Infertility gets diagnosed when a pregnancy does not occur after a year or more of trying or when a woman has multiple miscarriages. There are, however, treatments for various types of infertility, and many people can have a healthy pregnancy and child as a result of these treatments.
In this article, Dr. Hrishikesh Pai, among the top IVF specialists from India, has discussed nine solutions to solve the infertility issue.
Fertility is not only a “woman’s difficulty” or an issue of advanced age. Various factors can cause infertility, and it can influence individuals of every sex and age.
When a couple is having trouble getting pregnant, either one (or both) of them is equally likely to blame.
If a couple has trouble conceiving, both partners usually get tested for infertility.
What are the causes of infertility?
A variety of factors can cause infertility. However, the following are some of the most common causes of infertility in women:
- Periods that are painful or heavy
- Irregular periods
- The fallopian tubes are blocked, preventing sperm from reaching the egg.
- Eggs of poor quality
- During sex, there is pain
- Hormonal imbalances
- Ovulating is not possible (not releasing eggs from the ovaries)
- Endometriosis is caused by the shape of your uterus, making it difficult for a fertilized egg to implant.
- Fibroids in the uterus.
The following are the most common causes of infertility in men:
- Sexual desire changes
- Swelling or pain in the testicles
- Having trouble keeping an erection
- Testicles that are small and firm
- Sperm count is low (not having enough sperm in the semen),
- Sperm motility (when sperm can’t swim fast enough to reach an egg) is a problem
- Inadequately formed sperm
- Semen that is too thick to allow sperm to move around freely
- There is no sperm in the sperm
Infertility can be caused by sperm-related problems caused by having too much or too little of certain hormones that help your body make sperm.
In addition, infertility in men can be caused by a problem with ejaculation. You may have trouble ejaculating if the tubes inside your penis or testicles are blocked.
Ejaculation can sometimes send sperm backward from your prostate into your bladder rather than out of your penis.
Unexplained infertility, on the other hand, occurs when there is no known cause for infertility. Although unexplained infertility can be frustrating, there are usually treatment options available.
What factors may contribute to infertility?
In both men and women, specific health and lifestyle factors can increase your chances of having fertility issues.
According to Dr.Hrishikesh Pai, Women over 35, being overweight or underweight, chemotherapy or radiation, excessive drug or alcohol use, smoking, injury to the scrotum and testes, overheated testicles, and having an undescended testicle are among them.
What tests get used in the fertility assessment?
First and foremost, your fertility doctor will take a thorough medical and fertility history. Second, a transvaginal ultrasound will get performed to assess the uterus, tubes, and ovaries’ structure.
Blood levels of some hormones, like FSH and estradiol, linked to ovarian function and overall egg numbers, are among the most common tests. The hysterosalpingogram (HSG) is an important test for determining fallopian tubal potency.
The HSG can detect a variety of uterine and tubal abnormalities that can get surgically corrected. The primary test for evaluating males is the semen analysis.
What are the infertility treatments, according to Dr.Hrishikesh Pai?
Education: We believe that by educating our patients about the normal process of fertility, problems that affect fertility, and treatment options, they will be better equipped to make the best decisions.
Medications to stimulate egg development: There are two types of drugs that help stimulate the ovary to develop mature eggs for ovulation: pills and injections.
Insemination: Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a procedure that involves washing and preparing sperm for placing inside the uterine cavity, avoiding the cervix, and inducing a greater density of motile sperm closer to the ovulated egg and tubes.
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): which means “fertilization outside the body.” In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a procedure in which eggs are collected and fertilized by sperm outside the body in an embryology lab.
IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a sophisticated lab method that includes implanting a single potent sperm within an egg to produce an embryo implanted in a woman’s uterus.
Third-Party Reproduction: This is a broad term for a public process in which someone else provides sperm or eggs. A gestational surrogate is a woman who helps another person or couple have a child.
Surgery: Your doctor may recommend surgery to correct an abnormality after a thorough history, physical examination, and ultrasound.
Laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and abdominal myomectomy are the most common surgical procedures in reproductive medicine (removal of uterine fibroids).
Sperm Retrieval: For men who cannot ejaculate or produce sperm, a small needle gets used to extract sperm from the testicles.
Vasectomy Reversal: This procedure allows a man to produce healthy sperm in his sperm.
Sperm donation: It is when a man’s sperm gets used to fertilize a woman’s egg.
