Preeminent Pharmaceutical Industry Medical Affairs Authority Thought Leader Encourages Other Pharmaceutical Organizations to Participate in Training to Battle Opioid Addiction which has risen as a result of the Covid pandemic
The program involves a comprehensive overview of important pharmaceutical industry practices related to drug development, clinical trial design, compliance, and more. This preparation is critical to combat skyrocketing opioid addictions, which have led to the deaths of half a million people since 1999. Physicians and scientific experts predict that the most significant wave of Opioid addiction and death will arrive soon. According to the CDC, opioid overdoses increased by an alarming 35 percent over a 12-month timespan in 2020 and 2021.
Some professionals in the pharmaceutical industry led doctors to believe that opioids are significantly less addictive than reported. By pursuing a narrative that opioids are distributed in broader populations as opposed to their intended use for patients with severe pain (usually due to late-stage cancer), these specialists are putting those susceptible to opioid addiction in a deadly scenario.
“The opioid crisis is one of the largest single healthcare disasters in American history, and its effects have still not fully been felt, with the COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbating its immense impact,” Dr. Soliman said. “Standards are desperately needed in the pharmaceutical industry for professionals that engage and educate healthcare providers.
“The ACMA accredited Board Certification program in Medical Affairs promotes transparency and compliance throughout the industry,” Dr. Soliman continued. It is vital and needs to be implemented immediately by all pharmaceutical companies for their medical affairs teams to properly and vigorously fight the seemingly inevitable groundswell of opioid addiction and the associated death toll.”
Dr. Soliman is the ACMA’s founder and CEO. He’s also a veteran pharmaceutical industry executive instrumental in launching various innovative platforms expanding the role of medical affairs across the industry. He is often called upon to speak at significant pharmaceutical industry conferences focusing on medical matters, patient navigation and its relationship to field-based medical teams, and the constantly changing role of the medical science liaison (MSL).
In 2021, Dr. Soliman was invited to appear before the United States Congress Health Subcommittee to discuss healthcare, the pharmaceutical industry, and the importance of professional standards for those professionals who engage healthcare providers. In addition, he has worked closely on the issue with U.S. Attorney General’s offices.
