Chiesi Group Chooses Ideagen Pentana to Boost Internal Audit Practices

Chiesi Group, the international, privately-owned pharmaceutical company, is to implement an internal audit software solution to enhance its auditing operations worldwide.

Ideagen Pentana, an audit automation product from Ideagen, will monitor Chiesi’s internal control processes to ensure the firm is performing against corporate objectives.

Chiesi’s internal audit team is responsible for assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation’s processes, providing assurances and consultancy services to management.

Pentana will provide Chiesi’s auditors with one centralised system complete with web capability to ensure data can be captured and accessed while auditing Chiesi’s 27 sites globally.

Gabriele Gnaccarini, Corporate Internal Auditor, said the software will play an important part in supporting Chiesi’s auditors in managing the increasing requirements of internal stakeholders.

He said: “We purchased Pentana to support our internal auditing function in the face of growing challenges. It will become our dedicated internal auditing software and provide us with a central repository of activities that we are committed to, allowing us to document and monitor performance daily.

“In the pharma industry, there is a lot of pressure in terms of compliance and competition. There are also evolutionary aspects to take into consideration; as the global population grows and life expectancy increases, the strain on national health services also grows. All of this creates a very tense business and market place in which we operate.

“Relating to that, the internal auditing function at Chiesi is under pressure to be a solid contributor to the internal control system, risk management and compliance. It’s our job to ensure that the operational foundations are in place and working efficiently for Chiesi to continue to be successful.

“Ideagen Pentana will fully support the audit team and be a crucial tool in enabling us to ensure the business is operating as smoothly as possible. The software will monitor Chiesi’s internal control processes and enable my team to fulfil its daily work in a smarter way, through standardisation of the audit processes, its documentation, measurement and monitoring.”

Chiesi’s primary focus is in the research, development and sales of innovative, therapeutic prescription medicines in the field of respiratory, neonatology, transplant medicine and rare disease. Although its focus is in Europe, the company is rapidly growing in China and the USA and sells its products in more than 125 countries.

Through Pentana, Chiesi’s internal audit team now has a software solution for risk assessment, audit planning and execution, follow ups, documentation management and in monitoring performance and reporting on key performance indicators to management.

Gabriele added: “The auditing team is centralised in Italy, but as our team covers our global affiliates we are therefore operating in the field more often. With Pentana, our auditors will be able to use the application wherever they are and this provides the team with a lot of flexibility for their work. This will help accuracy of audits and enhance business intelligence.”

Ideagen Pentana is used by over 450 clients worldwide including Heineken, BDO and the European Central Bank.
